University of Toronto students have access to over 5,800 in-course awards every year. These awards are awarded to current students.

New for Fall 2024 / Winter 2025: All in-course awards will be awarded in the Fall term. The application will open Monday September 9, 2024 and close on Friday November 1, 2024 at 5 p.m. Only one application is required. You may apply for multiple awards on one U of T Student Award Application Form. Please be sure to check the award criteria before selecting the award.
The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT and other AI applications, is prohibited when creating content for any University of Toronto undergraduate award application.
Students and applicants found to have used generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) to create content that is presented as their own ideas will be disqualified from award eligibility. This prohibited use of generative AI for content creation will be considered an academic offence. Abdul Razak and Sofia Naik Award
To be awarded to an undergraduate student registered with Accessibility Services, on the basis of financial need.
Accenture Scholarship
To be awarded to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Must be enrolled in an Engineering, Computer Science or Bachelor of Commerce Degree
- Open to third year students who are entering their final year of study the following September
- Have maintained a strong academic background-minimum GPA of 3.0
- Actively involved in two or more extracurricular activities i.e. Professional or social organizations, organized sports teams or activities, continued active involvement demonstrating commitment is required.
Al Mercury Scholarship
The Al Mercury Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates community involvement, academic excellence, integrity and an appreciation and interest in music.
Alan Hill Bursary Fund
Awarded to students on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Preference will be given to immigrants whose financial need is directly related to their move to Canada, especially those lacking family support in this country.
Allen Angus Rodgers Wheelchair Athletes’ Fund Disability Bursaries
Awarded to disabled students enrolled in any year at the University of Toronto on the basis of financial need and contribution to their community through volunteer work or demonstrated leadership ability. The recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and have maintained satisfactory academic standing.
Anita Garbarino Girard Award
The Anita Garbarino Girard Award is awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate students at any Faculty or Campus.
Bennett Scholars
The Bennett Scholars is awarded to current full-time, undergraduate students, based on financial need. Preference given to Indigenous Students or whose parents did not attend university or college. The award is valued at $10,000 each and is offered to multiple recipient each year.
Beata Fitzpatrick Award
The Beata Fitzpatrick Award is intended for U of T administrative staff pursuing studies towards an undergraduate or graduate degree, on the basis of financial need. Recipient must be eligible for U of T Staff tuition waiver.
Canadian Federation of University Women Etobicoke Bursary
To be awarded to female students, who are residents of Etobicoke, on the basis of financial need. One bursary to be awarded to a first year undergraduate student and one bursary to be awarded to a second or higher year undergraduate student.
Chinese Dance Workshop Scholarship Fund
To be awarded to the student on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated dance experience. An applicant will be required to submit a letter verifying at least three years of attendance at a recognized dance institute along with a transcript of marks.
City of Toronto Queen Elizabeth II Sesquicentennial Scholarship in Community Health Nursing
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement, particularly in courses related to community health nursing. The undergraduate scholarship is open to students completing the third year of the four year BScN program, until this program ceases to exist, and to students completing the first year of the second-entry two year BScN program. Preference may be given to students who are proficient in a language besides English and whose interest is to work with multicultural families. The graduate scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Graduate Department of Nursing Science who have completed courses in community health and demonstrate a commitment to this aspect of nursing.
City of Toronto Scholarships for Indigenous Students Studying In Health Professions
The scholarships will be awarded to indigenous students studying in any of the health professional programs, undergraduate or graduate, on the basis of financial need, academic merit and demonstrated community leadership skills.
City of Toronto Women and Gender Studies Scholarship
To be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need to students in Women and Gender Studies, enrolled full-time or part-time, deemed most likely to contribute to studies on the status of women, community studies and public policy.
Dan Leckie City of Toronto Award
Open to undergraduate or graduate students on the basis of financial need. Students must be in the Division of the Environment or Community Studies or related fields such as Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Health Science, Education and residents of Toronto.
Derek Walcott Award
To be awarded annually to a 3rd or 4th year full time or part time undergraduate student in any faculty who has financial need and an interest in pursuing work in any aspect of Caribbean study/research. Copy of final paper/work, conforming to accepted academic standards, should be provided to the CEOC for future reference and to build a collection of outstanding work in Caribbean study.
Dharma Master Chuk Mor Memorial Scholarship
Financial need must be considered, academic merit will also be considered. Awarded to a student in a Major or Specialist Program in Art History in the Faculty of Arts and Science or Visual Studies in the Faculty of Architecture.
Dorothy Jean Powell Award
To be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students on the basis of academic standing. First preference will be for students from (or with connections to) the following West Indian/Caribbean countries: Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago. Where possible, preference will be given to women applying to or registered in programs where women are under-represented.
Douglas K Campbell Memorial Bursary
To be awarded to a student on the basis of academic merit and financial need whose parent or parents are members of a trade union at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Albert Stricker Scholarship
To be awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student(s) registered with Accessibility Services office at U of T with financial need who face barriers related to mobility or sensory disabilities. Students are eligible to receive the award for subsequent years.
Dr. Anderson Abbott Award
The Dr. Anderson Abbott Award of $4,000 is awarded to a black student in any program of study on the basis of academic achievement, financial need and contribution to the black community.
Dr. Josiah Deboran and Flora Seedansingh Award
To be awarded annually to a master’s or doctoral full time or part time student in any faculty who has an interest in pursuing any aspect of scholarly work which recognizes the multi-cultural composition of the Caribbean, and who demonstrates financial need
Dr. Sinnathurai Vijayakumar Scholarship
To be awarded to an undergraduate student based on financial need. Preference given to students studying Tamil studies at U of T or students who are active in Tamil communities.
Edward and Dorothy Dawson Award for Indigenous Students
To be awarded to Indigenous students with financial need. The value of the award is dependent on financial need, and preference is given to Indigenous students enrolled in any science related discipline.
Ernst and Young Scholarships in Commerce
Awarded to student in the third and fourth year of a specialist program in Commerce/Accounting who have successfully completed accounting courses.
Estonian Scholarship Fund
The Estonian Scholarship Fund provides funding to students from Estonia, and to Canadian students researching topics related to Estonia, or doing work associated with the Chair of Estonian Studies. The award is made on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Excellence is Black Award
To be awarded to full-time graduate or undergraduate students who identify as Black student, based on financial need. The recipient must be currently enrolled or accepted an offer of admission in a U of T program (undergraduate, Masters or Doctoral), second entry program or research-stream graduate program (Masters or Ph.D.).
First Nations House Bursary
The Indigenous Student Bursary is an award provided to self-identified Indigenous students with financial need who are attending postsecondary programs and/or training programs at either Ontario publicly-assisted colleges and universities, or any of the nine Indigenous Institutes in Ontario. This bursary was first established in the 2008-09 academic year as part of the Government of Ontario’s Indigenous Education Strategy.
Frederick Marker Award
The Frederick Marker award is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students on the basis of financial need.
Gladys Watson Indigenous Education Fund
To be awarded to aboriginal students enrolled in graduate programs at the masters or doctoral level, and second-entry professional programs (law, medicine, education , etc.) All aboriginal students in these programs are eligible to apply, full-time and part-time, with preference given to those students who demonstrate financial need.
Gwendolyn Peacher Award for the Traditional Arts
The award is open to a student in any program of study at the University of Toronto. The recipient will be selected on the basis of innovative and creative involvement in the traditional performing arts, preferably dance, either within the University community or elsewhere
Hosinec Family Scholarships
The Hosinec Family Scholarships are made up of multiple awards varying in value. They are awarded to Ontario students on the basis of need and academic merit.
Ilmar Heinsoo Estonian Scholarship
The Estonian Scholarship Fund provides funding to students from Estonia, and to Canadian students researching topics related to Estonia, or doing work associated with the Chair of Estonian Studies. The award is made on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Irving J. Hoffman Memorial Scholarship
To be awarded to a physically handicapped student, enrolled on either a full-time or a part-time basis, who demonstrates superior academic achievement and financial need. Candidates must have completed at least five university credits, or the equivalent.
Joseph McCulley Educational Trust Fund
To be awarded to students of the University of Toronto who in the judgement and discretion of the then Warden of Hart House give promise of developing into mature adults of professional competence, primarily in the general area of public life or social work, with special emphasis on penology, and such fund shall be used for educational purposes of such students in the discretion of the then Warden of Hart House of the University of Toronto.
Leon C. Bynoe Memorial Scholarship
To be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student registered full-time in an undergraduate degree program in any College or Faculty. Preference will be given to candidates from the Afro-Canadian community and MTHA residents. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding service to the Afro-Canadian community.
Lillian McGregor Award of Excellence
To be awarded to Indigenous students studying full-time at the University of Toronto on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSOTF II program conditions. Individual bursaries will vary in value depending on the need of the candidate. Aboriginal students enrolled in the Transitional Year Programme, undergraduate and graduate level programs and second entry studies will all be eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a contribution to the Aboriginal community through volunteerism and involvement with First Nations House and/or Native Student’s Association.
Louis and Lisa Cheng Scholarship in Art History and Visual Studies
To be awarded to a 2nd or 3rd year student who is enrolled in a Specialist or Major program in the Department of History of Art in the Faculty of Arts and Science or in Visual Studies in the Faculty of Architecture. Financial need must be considered. The recipient must also have a high GPA of 3.3 (B+) as well as demonstrate involvement in the community.
Marilyn Van Norman Indigenous Student Leadership Award
To be awarded to Indigenous students studying full/part-time at the University of Toronto on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency as defined by the OTSS program conditions. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a contribution to the Indigenous community through volunteerism and involvement with the Native Students Association.
Merit College Scholarship for Leadership and Academic Excellence
The Merit College Scholarship for Leadership and Academic Excellence at the University of Toronto is to be awarded to a full-time international undergraduate student entering their 1st year at University of Toronto who graduated from Merit College/Merit Education with demonstrated leadership and academic excellence.
Metis Nation of Ontario Bursary
To be awarded to registered members of Metis Nation of Ontario and is registered and enrolled at the University of Toronto who demonstrate financial need.
Nelson Mandela Award
To be awarded to students in fourth year on the basis of academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and community involvement. Eligible candidates must demonstrate, through their studies and community involvement, a commitment to promoting peace, justice, citizenship and human rights.
Norma Dewar Chisholm Memorial Bursary
To be awarded to an undergraduate student on the basis of financial need who is registered with Accessibility Services. Preference will be given to a student with a physical or sensory disability. OTSS guidelines apply: Recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or protected person and must be a resident of Ontario.
Nortel Institute Undergraduate Scholarship
To be awarded to an undergraduate student; who is a Canadian citizen /permanent resident and resident of Ontario; in second or third year in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto Mississauga or University of Toronto Scarborough on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Candidates must have a strong academic background with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates are also required to demonstrate active involvement in one of the followings: -research, coursework or work experience involving micro/nanofabrication; – a proposal for potential student summer research project or capstone project involving micro/nanofabrication
Richard B Nunn Student Leadership Award
The award shall be tenable during the final year of study for any first undergraduate degree. The recipient will be selected on the basis of participation in, and contribution to, student governance, student activities and athletics at the University of Toronto, and academic achievement. The recipient will be expected to have maintained a cumulative average of B+ (GPA 3.5). Although the Awards Committee may also take into consideration the financial circumstances of the applicant, they shall not be a determinative factor. Both full- and part-time students are eligible to apply.
Roberta Charlesworth Award
To be awarded to full-time undergraduate student(s) going into second year who have a good academic record and a serious involvement in some worthwhile activity in the field of sports or in the arts, and who can also demonstrate a need for financial assistance
Rosalind Murray Bradford Scholarship
To be awarded to an undergraduate student of indigenous ancestry enrolled in his/her second, third or fourth year of study. To be eligible the student must be registered in an undergraduate program and have obtained at least second class honours standing in his/her previous year. The financial status of the student may receive consideration.
S. Ubakata Fund for Japanese Students
The candidate must: be a Japanese subject from Japan proper; be registered in the University of Toronto devoting full-time to his or her studies; be able to satisfy admission requirements respecting English facility; not be holding other financial aid.
Sigma Chi Leadership Award
To be awarded to first-year undergraduate students at the University of Toronto in good academic standing. Recipients will have demonstrated strong leadership based on her/his participation in extracurricular activities.
St. George Society of Toronto Endowment Fund
To be awarded preferably to an equal number of male and female graduate or undergraduate students on the basis of financial need, a minimum B average and a member of one of the Varsity Blues Teams. Students from across all three campuses and from all colleges and faculties are eligible to apply, without any emphasis on a particular field of study. Preference will be given to in-course students.
Stephanie Ali Memorial Scholarship
The Stephanie Ali Memorial Scholarship of approximately $1800 is awarded to students with financial need who have demonstrated commitment to community work and/or participation in charitable activities. This can include church choirs, youth group leadership, Sunday School leadership, outreach planning or missions as well as volunteer or paid work at shelters, food banks or other charitable causes. Preference will be given to candidates who are past or present members of the University of Toronto Gospel Choir.
Taylor Statten Memorial Fellowship
To assist in the training of qualified and worthy students for professional careers in youth-serving occupations, and for grants for lectureships and research.
The Donald Forster Awardship
The award shall be tenable during the final year of study for any first undergraduate degree. The recipient will be selected on the basis of participation in, and contribution to, student governance and student activities at the University of Toronto, and academic achievement. The recipient will be expected to have maintained a cumulative average of B (GPA 3.0). Although the Awards Committee may also take into consideration the financial circumstances of the applicant, they shall not be a determinative factor. The E. J. Pratt Award
The award will be made on the basis of the poem, or group of related poems, judged to be the most outstanding submission. Entries should be approximately 100 lines in length. No previously published composition will be considered, except for work in campus student publications.
The F.W. Minkler Scholarship
To be awarded to an undergraduate student whose integrity, scholarship and contribution to the University of Toronto is outstanding.
The Gertrude Elgin Robson Scholarship for Aboriginal Students
To be awarded to full-time Indigenous Students. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need and who are associated with First Nations House
The Jess Hann Bursary Fund
The bursaries will be awarded to students in any program at the University of Toronto who have at least one parent born in Italy and who demonstrate financial need.
The Khaki University and Y.M.C.A Memorial Scholarship Fund
The candidate must be enrolled in the second or higher year of an undergraduate course proceeding to a degree and have obtained at least first class honours standing. Preference will be given to students who are descendants of one who has served in the armed forces.
The Mary Jane Hendrie Memorial Scholarship
To be awarded to an outstanding senior undergraduate or graduate student who has combined a special interest in Japan with studies in business, economics, international relations or political science
The Rabbi Isserman Prize
The Rabbi Isserman Prize is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student on the basis of an essay exploring International or Interracial Relations.
University of Toronto Women’s Association TYP Grant
To be awarded to a student enrolled in the TYP Program on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to a sole support parent. The award was established by the University of Toronto Women’s Association (https://uawc.artsci.utoronto.ca/).
UTFA Tuition Bursary
To be awarded to an undergraduate student, on the basis of demonstrated financial need and expectation of academic success.
UTSU Undergraduate Award
To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who is a University of Toronto Students’ Union member on the basis of financial need, and extracurricular involvement in the University community. The recipient must have maintained a minimum academic standing of ‘C’
WAMIC Burge Connell Bursary
The Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada Burge Connell Bursary is awarded to an undergraduate student entering third or fourth year of Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering or a Geology program within the Faculty of Arts and Science. It is awarded to students with financial need, and the amount granted is dependent on the recipient’s annual income.
WAMIC Edith Tyrrell Award and Medal
The Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada Edith Tyrrell Award and Medal is awarded to one or more students who are registered in the third or fourth year of Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering or a Geology program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Candidates must rank academically in the top quarter of his or her class and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, as evidenced through his or her active extra-curricular and/or community involvement. The amount awarded is dependent on the recipient’s annual income.
WAMIC Foundation Award
The WAMIC Foundation Award is awarded on the basis of academic merit to a third or fourth year student registered in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering or the Faculty of Arts and Science, in one of the following programs of study: Mineral Engineering, Mining, Metallurgy, Geology, Geophysics, Geological Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering or related studies in Earth Sciences. The candidate must have achieved a minimum second-year average of 85% (Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering) or 3.18 GPA (Faculty of Arts and Science).
WAMIC Wood Scholarship
The Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada Wood Scholarship is awarded to one or more undergraduate students registered in the third or fourth year of Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering or the Earth Science program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Candidates must be pursuing studies related to a career in the mining industry and must demonstrate financial need. Additional consideration may be given to candidate’s leadership skills, as demonstrated through extra-curricular and/or community involvement. The amount awarded is dependent on the recipient’s annual income.
Women and Gender Studies Grant (OSOTF)
To be awarded to full-time or part-time students, graduate or undergraduate, enrolled in the Women and Gender Studies Institute Program, on the basis of financial need. Academic merit will also be a consideration
Award for Scholarly Achievement in the area of Gender Based Violence
Each December 6th, the University of Toronto community marks the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women with events across the institution. In 2016, the University established the Graduate and Undergraduate Award for Scholarly Achievement to recognize students who have made distinctive contributions in the area of gender-based violence research and prevention. Two awards (one undergraduate and one graduate) are available annually in the amount of $1,500 each.
John H. Moss Scholarship (graduating award)
One scholarship of $20,000 is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic and extracurricular leadership. Candidates who are interviewed as Moss finalists, but not selected as the Moss Scholar will be designated UTAA Scholars and will receive an honorarium and certificate in recognition of their achievements. Award recipients will be honoured at the Awards of Excellence ceremony to be held in the spring.
President’s Award for the Outstanding Indigenous Student
To be awarded to students of Indigenous ancestries include First Nations (status, non-status), Métis and Inuit on the basis of academic achievement and previous and/or intended future contribution to the Indigenous community. Students must be studying full-time and involved in course work.
One award is given to a student in an undergraduate program (Arts and Science, Music, Physical Education and Health, APSC) and one award is given to a student in a graduate program (masters or doctorate) or second-entry professional program (Dentistry, Education, Law, Medicine).
